What we say
Toshari Lodge is a modern lodge located around 25 kilometres south of the gate to Etosha Park. Just off the main (tarred) road to Okaukuejo, it is a very easy drive from Toshari into the park.
The main lodge area is a pleasant surprise, it is modern, light and airy with large expanses of folding glass doors allowing the entire dining and seating area to be opened in warmer weather. There is also plenty of outside seating as well as three swimming pools. Dinners comprise of either a braai (BBQ) or 5-course meal accompanied by a good selection of South African wines and Namibian beers.
The lodge grounds are shaded by Mopane and White Seringa trees, and beautiful clumps of aloes attract sunbirds. The lodge has a large solar power array, and is self sufficient – those interested in these things (and who isn’t?) can view the current power production, usage and battery status on a monitor at reception.
Toshari Lodge offers standard, luxury and family rooms. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with African inspired design elements.
Full or half-day Etosha game drives in open vehicles are available. However, the lodge is well located to serve as a base to self drive through Etosha.
The three campsites are grassed and offer private ablution facilities. The one concern is that the proximity to the main road may cause them to be a bit noisy, but this should not be a major concern as after sunset there is no traffic moving in and out of Etosha.
What they say (the facts!)
Nestled on an outcrop of dolomite rocks, under a forest of Mopane and white Seringa trees, Toshari Lodge offers affordable but enchanting accommodation close to Etosha National Park, one of Namibia’s major attractions.
After the excitement of your Namibian safari in Etosha National Park, relax and unwind at our garden bar and fortify your soul with our sumptuous wines and meals. Absorb the peace and tranquility of the natural African bush as you amble through a blend of manicured lawns and rustic bush gardens to your private room.
Why we like it
By staying at Toshari you are missing out on the Okaukuejo waterhole experience, however, the quality of meals and accommodation outstrips anything available inside Etosha. Probably best if combined with a few nights accommodation inside the park – or for those who like their accommodation well maintained. With 42 rooms in total, this is a large lodge but due to the fact that the rooms are scattered about the property, it does not feel too big or impersonal. A good choice for people on a self-drive holiday in Namibia who are on a budget.
